St. Peter Erosion (print)

This print - a drawing of the statue with a textual explanation of the way its foot has eroded - includes a large white space at the bottom with the outline of two footprints in it. I attached the print to the floor in a public place and left it for a number of days. The footprints - in addition to the print's placement on the floor - invite people to step on it in order to view it. As the footprints build up on the print, they invite more people to view the print by stepping on it. Shoe treads become discernible and the "data" from the footprints eventually takes on an importance if its own.

Visitors to the Vatican regularly touch the foot of this statue and, as a result, the foot has become worn down over time.
