Plots and Schemes

This catalog is for the 2005 University of Texas Masters of Fine Arts Exhibition - Plots and Schemes.

This catalog plays on the theme of generating a multitude of outcomes from a small set of elements. I started by breaking a typeface into six basic elements: a thick line, a thin line, a serif, a curve with a large radius, a curve with a small radius, and a terminal. We gave each of the show's exhibitors a spread in the catalog and used these six elements to create each person's name in that spread. Additionally, these elements were used to create a visual space to exhibit each person's work. The spaces, too, illustrate some aspect of that work.

By using this repeated set of elements, certain forms show up repeatedly, giving this catalog of varying work - and varying responses to that work - a cohesion that ultimately makes it more successful.
